O's
Story
O’s was born in Istanbul (Formerly
Constantinople) the final termination point of the Silk
Road. His family origins are traced to early Ottoman
settlements of Deliorman, Sumlu and to Turks of Central
Asia through Oguz Khan (The founder of Asian Hun
Empire), from whom O’s was named after.
Brought
up in the city of Bandirma, Turkey by a family of craftsmen and
architects, O’s first interests in healing arts begun in
his early childhood due to his fascination with Greek
and Roman sculpture. He was also highly encouraged by
his father to study the great works of Michael Angelo
and Leonardo Da Vinci. At a young age he immersed
himself in anatomy books, studying the muscular
system with the dreams of becoming a master sculptor.
Just like how most little kids know Dinosaur names
today, O's could recite the names of most muscle groups
when he was a little kid.
Later
as he grew up, his fascination with electrical current and magnetic
fields led him to study basic relays, motors and
robotics, which eventually brought him to study of human
nervous system and to study mechanical functioning of
human joints. Due to his deep interests in Aerospace
and efforts to understand life support mechanisms, he
delved into study of the synergistic functioning of
human body systems.
While
studying the inner workings lasers and radiation, he developed an
interest in study of transfer of matter to energy and
transmutation of cell structure. The
original philosophies of Oguz Khan , and O's other
interest in early Zoroastrian concepts, led him to
Taoist studies of Chi, the energy/matter as viewed by
Traditional Chinese Medicine...needless to say he hit
the books and learned as much as he could during this
early part of his life.....All before the age 15.
His
childhood interest highly influenced his subjects of
study during college. He took many science related
classes, however in order to have a well rounded
knowledge, he decided to graduate with a degree in
Management. However, following his passions, his graduate school
training in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine exposed
him to further study of medicinal plants, and western
biomedical sciences. All of which became a nice addition
to his earlier interests in Turkish plant remedies and Unani Medicine, the original Holistic medical system
associated with Hippocrates.
O’s
holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest
Missouri State University and a Master of Acupuncture
and Oriental Medicine Degree from Tai Hsuan College.
Being a lifetime learner, he also has many college
credits from every subject he wanted to learn, but did
not necessarily want to get a degree in. Along
the way O’s has tried to pass what he has learned to
others. He has taught classes at various institutions
at all levels from kindergarten to professional graduate
school. So far, he has had the pleasure of teaching over
forty different subjects, most of which have been
healthcare, science and technology based classes.
As a
healer O’s believes in patient education, but
essentially in doing, instead of talking. He prides
himself in physical skill associated with the craft of
Acupuncture. His philosophy is: "Skill is where
it's at, Talk is over rated". He believes in keeping an open mind, "but
not so open that the mind falls out". He has learned
his skills in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from
traditional teachers, among which have been Taoist
Masters Chang I Hsiang, Au Yang Tao I, and Sze Hsuan
Mei. O's has been trained in Ancient Taoist
methods and philosophies of Acupuncture as well as
modern academic curriculum.
Having studied
various martial arts continually since age ten, O's is an extreme advocate of
non-violence as well as an advocate for fitness and clean life style. Although not necessarily an easy
and joyful experience, O's was trained personally as the traditional
disciple of Hapkido Grand
Master Kyung Choi. Today, O's is recognized as the
most senior Instructor of the Grandmasters Art. He is also one
of only two people on the planet surviving from this original lineage of
practitioners. However, O's has taught Hapkido in the
US since 1985 and trained many instructors and master
instructors to perpetuate
this knowledge. Having a flair for learning all things ancient,
O's has spent considerable amount of time learning Old Okinawan
Forms (Kata). He holds traditional teaching license and master
instructor level in the Art of GoJu. O's interests in
trauma medicine has direct relationship to the time he has spent
training in athletics and martial arts. He is especially familiar
with bone and joint related issues.
Being
especially influenced by concepts of Courage, Loyalty
and Justice, O's clinic wall holds a picture of Kwan-yu,
Chang-fei, and Yu-Bei, classic eastern patriarchs
associated with such concepts. Door to his clinic
is watched by a statue of General Kwan (Representing
Courage), reminding O's to
work hard and do his best for his clients.
O’s
combines modern cutting edge scientific approaches with
Ancient and time tested modalities in his practice. He
has helped hundreds of people in Honolulu area achieve
their wellness goals through his skills and knowledge.
O’s
likes to work out, does his own Acupuncture treatments
on himself and lives the health conscious lifestyle he
advocates. He has been involved several internationally
syndicated fitness programs. Yes, also he is that guy
running the Waikiki Beach on the popular Fitness TV
infomercials.
